MY STORY
Champion for Change and Community
State Representative Jordan Harris has served his community in South and Southwest Philadelphia for his entire adult life. Born and raised in Point Breeze and currently living in Greys Ferry, Harris has made delivering for his community and enriching the lives of those in Philadelphia and across Pennsylvania the center point of his career. After graduating from John Bartram Motivation High School and then Millersville University, Harris served as both a teacher in Philadelphia and as the Executive Director of Philadelphia’s Youth Commission before running for public office.
First elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 2012, Harris has quickly established himself as a leader and visionary, first serving as the Chairman of the Legislative Black Caucus, then serving as only the second African American to hold the position of Democratic Whip. Harris is currently again only the second African American to hold the position of Majority Chairman of the Committee on Appropriations, the powerful House committee that controls all aspects of the state budget. While in office, Harris championed criminal justice reform and education reform, bringing real positive change to the lives of millions of Pennsylvanians.
